Our Mission
PilgrimIRL is dedicated to preserving and promoting Ireland’s rich spiritual heritage. We document sacred sites, pilgrimage routes, and the stories of Irish Catholic saints across all 32 counties of Ireland.
What We Do
Our comprehensive database includes:
- Monastic Sites: Historic monasteries, abbeys, and priories founded by Irish saints
- Christian Sites: Churches, holy wells, and places of spiritual significance
- Pilgrimage Routes: Walking paths and sacred journeys across Ireland
- Saint Directory: Information about Irish Catholic saints and their feast days
- Liturgical Calendar: Daily feast days and commemorations
Our Heritage
Ireland’s spiritual landscape is unique in Christian history. From the early monasteries of the 5th and 6th centuries to the enduring traditions of pilgrimage, Irish Christianity has shaped not only the island itself but influenced the entire Christian world.
The early Irish monks were known as the “light of Europe” during the Dark Ages, preserving classical knowledge and spreading Christianity throughout the continent. Their legacy lives on in the thousands of sacred sites dotted across Ireland’s landscape.
Preserving History
Many of Ireland’s sacred sites are in ruins, threatened by time and the elements. Through documentation, photography, and community engagement, PilgrimIRL aims to:
- Record the location and history of sacred sites before they are lost
- Encourage pilgrimage and spiritual tourism
- Connect people with Ireland’s spiritual heritage
- Support conservation efforts for historic religious sites
