About This Feast
Columba (521-597 AD), also known as Colmcille ("Dove of the Church"), was an Irish monk who founded the monastery on Iona and is credited with converting much of Scotland to Christianity.
Significance
One of Ireland's three patron saints, Columba spread Christianity throughout Scotland and northern Britain. He was also a noted scholar and scribe.

Pilgrimage to Iona, Scotland, and to Derry and Kells in Ireland. Columba is patron of poets and bookbinders.
