The OS Letters describe a ‘Chapel Well’, located near Tallaght on the brink of the River Dodder (Herity 2002, 36, Daly 1957, 34-5). Tradition records that it was a curative well. In 1837 the Ordnance Survey Letters mention a well in the S side of the townland of Oldconnaught known as St Charles well (O’Flanagan 1927, 37 (66). This is a well maintained holy well associated with St. Columcille. The water is traditionally thought to cure sore eyes, ears and throat.
